Sustainability in Food Service with Filta

Reduce your impact on the environment with Filta’s sustainable solutions.

Eco-Friendly Services

At Filta, we’re proud to promote sustainability in food service by reducing cooking oil’s environmental impact. By using our oil filtering and recycling service, you can help us keep pursuing this goal. Filtering and recycling cooking oil reduces oil usage, which reduces waste oil and packaging. It decreases the number of boxes being shipped, lessening your business’s carbon footprint. We also provide you with advice on improving frying practices to lower energy usage and decrease chemical usage for better fryer maintenance. Finally, waste oil we collect is recycled into biodiesel, reducing emissions on the road and promoting sustainability.

Our filtering and recycling service isn’t our only solution that promotes sustainability in food service. By using our humidity control service, we help make sure your cooler operation is more energy-efficient, leading to reduced energy usage. Longer food product life in the cooler results in less food waste, and less running time for equipment can extend its life by up to 40%.

In 2020 alone, FiltaFry and FiltaBio services achieved the following:
This reduction of environmental impact is equivalent to planting 1,460,257 trees, and we’re not stopping there.

Filta’s drain maintenance service also promotes sustainability. It prevents harmful chemicals and waste from entering the waterways and reduces the need for harsh chemicals and excessive water usage in cleaning processes. Both benefits decrease your business’s carbon footprint.

Environmental Impact

Filta Group has been helping the environment before it was called “Being Green.” We believe it’s our personal responsibility to contribute to the environment. We’re constantly in search of ways to be green, internally and externally, and every day we strive to continue to do our part to preserve the environment. Every product and service that we offer goes through rigorous testing to ensure that we are increasing sustainability in food service while saving our customers money. We believe it’s our responsibility to keep you aware of what you can do to contribute. From farm to table, most people never consider what it takes to get oil to a fryer and the impact it has on the environment.

Among the various impacts caused by oil production are:

You can now see the environmental impact of getting that oil to your kitchen. We think you’ll agree that it’s a real eye-opener. You can lessen your impact on the environment by prolonging the useful life of the oil. Our FiltaFry service will extend the life of your cooking oil and, when that oil has reached the end of its life, our technician will collect that waste oil and recycle it with our FiltaBio program. Diesel disperses many carcinogenic particles and greenhouse gases including sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas). By using biodiesel instead of diesel, you can reduce these emissions. For every gallon of biodiesel used in place of diesel, you prevent 16 lbs. of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

Unlike petroleum-based diesel, recycled vegetable oil does not emit sulfur dioxide (SO2), a major contributor to acid rain. Vegetable oil recycling yields approximately 80% less carbon dioxide than petroleum-based diesel fuel, and thereby contributes to the reduction of global warming. Vehicles that run on recycled vegetable oil-based biodiesel produce approximately 50% less carbon monoxide than petroleum-based engines. Recycled cooking oil also emits fewer cancer-causing particulates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) than fossil fuel-based diesel products.
